According to Quran and Hadith, which actions make somebody long-lived and wealthy?
The Qur'an and Hadith provide various insights into actions that can contribute to a long life and increased wealth.
In the Qur'an, one verse states: Spend your wealth for the cause of Allah, and be not cast by your own hands to ruin; and do good. Lo! Allah loveth the beneficent.
2:195. This verse emphasizes the importance of charity and good deeds as a means to avoid self-destruction and to earn Allah's love. It suggests that spending wealth for good causes is linked to both divine favor and potentially greater prosperity.
Additionally, another verse highlights the transient nature of worldly possessions: Wealth and children are an ornament of the life of the world. But the good deeds which endure are better in thy Lord's sight for reward, and better in respect of hope.
18:46. Here, the focus is on the enduring value of good deeds over material wealth, implying that righteous actions can lead to lasting rewards.
Hadith literature also provides guidance on this matter. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: Whoever wishes for his provision to be expanded and his lifespan to be prolonged should maintain ties of kinship.
Sunan Abu Dawud 9:138. This teaching underscores the importance of familial bonds, indicating that nurturing relationships can lead to both increased sustenance and longevity.
Furthermore, there are narrations that state: Nothing increases one's lifespan except righteousness, and nothing repels decree except supplication. Indeed, a person may be deprived of sustenance because of a sin he has committed.
Sunan Ibn Majah 37:97. This highlights the significance of righteous actions and prayer as means to enhance one's life and avoid misfortunes.
In Shia tradition, it is mentioned that Righteousness and charity remove poverty, increase lifespan, and repel ninety kinds of harmful deaths.
Al-Kafi 1:2. This emphasizes the belief that good deeds and charitable acts have a protective and enriching effect on one's life.
Overall, both the Qur'an and Hadith suggest that maintaining good character, performing righteous deeds, spending in the way of Allah, nurturing family ties, and engaging in supplication are key actions that can lead to a longer and more prosperous life.

Al-Kafi 1:2
Al-Kafi · Book 1, Hadith 2
Gabriel descended upon Adam (peace be upon him) and said: "O Adam, I have been ordered to offer you a choice among three things; choose one and abandon the other two." Adam asked: "What are the three?" He said: "Intellect, modesty, and religion." Adam chose intellect. Gabriel said to modesty and religion: "Depart." They said: "O Gabriel, we have been commanded to be with intellect wherever it is." He said, "Then it is your concern," and he ascended. — OR — Allah, Glorious and Exalted, created the believer from the clay of Paradise and the disbeliever from the clay of the Fire. He also said: When Allah wills good for a servant, He purifies his soul and body so that he hears nothing of good except that he recognizes it, nor hears anything of evil except that he rejects it. I heard him say that there are three kinds of clays: the clay of the prophets and the believers is from that clay—except the prophets are the purest from it and are original and have their excellence—and the believers are branches of sticky clay. Thus Allah does not distinguish between them and their followers. The clay of the Nasibis (enemies) is from bitter filthy soil, while the weak people are from soil that does not change. No believer shifts from his faith, nor the Nasibi from his hostility. To Allah belongs the will concerning them. — OR — All water is pure except when it is known to be impure. — OR — Righteousness and charity remove poverty, increase lifespan, and repel ninety kinds of harmful deaths. In another narration, it says that they prevent a harmful death from befalling my Shia. — OR — The Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'Paradise has a gate called the Gate of the Mujahideen. They proceed to it while it is open, carrying their swords. The assembly is present, and the angels welcome them. Then he said: Whoever abandons jihad, God will clothe him with humiliation and poverty in his livelihood and wipe out his religion. God made my community wealthy through the points of their horses and tips of their spears.' — OR — From the happiness of a man is to have children whom he can rely on for help. — OR — A servant of my father called 'Ayan accompanied me and was sick for some days, then recovered, and then died. I took his belongings and what he had and brought them to Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) and informed him that he had been sick for some days, recovered, and then died. He said, 'That is the repose of death. Know that no one dies until God Almighty returns to him his hearing, sight, and intellect to make his will, whether he takes it or leaves it.' — OR — I have never heard of anyone more ascetic than Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon him), except what I heard from Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him). Abu Hamzah said: When Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn spoke about asceticism and gave admonition, he made those present weep. Abu Hamzah also said: I read a paper containing sayings of asceticism of Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon him), wrote them down, then brought them to him; he recognized and authenticated them. They began with 'In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.' We ask God to protect us and you from the scheming of oppressors, the envy of the jealous, and the tyranny of the tyrants. O believers, do not be led astray by the tyrants and their followers who are inclined and tempted by this world, the transient and perishable. Beware of what God has warned you against, forsake what God has made detestable. Do not rely on this world as your stable home or permanent dwelling. By God, you have evident signs and admonition in it, its changing days and seasons, and its emblems and play with its people: it raises the lowly and lowers the noble; tomorrow it will send some people to Hell. This is a lesson and a test for the attentive. Each day and night bring trials, tribulations, innovations, injustice, and calamitous signs which discourage hearts from awareness and make them oblivious to guidance and knowledge of the Truthful except a few whom God protects. No one understands the changing states and consequences of the afflictions except one whom God has safeguarded, guided, and assisted by asceticism, repeating reflection, patience, and turning away from the fleeting joys of this world, desiring the permanent bliss of the Hereafter. Such a person watches death and detests life with the wrongdoers. He views this world with sharp insight and perceives the occurrences of trials, the misguidance of innovations, and the tyranny of oppressive rulers. By God, you have turned your back upon these accumulated trials of past days of sedition and immersed yourselves in what you believe protects you from misguided and tyrant ones who wrongfully corrupt the earth. So seek God's help, return to His obedience, and to the obedience of those more deserving of obedience than those who are followed, and obey them. Beware, beware before regret and remorse, facing God standing before Him. By God, no group caused disobedience but God subjected them to punishment. And no one preferred this world over the Hereafter but his end is miserable. Knowledge and action are a pair; whoever knows God fears Him, fearing urges obedience to God’s commands. Those who loved God and His guidance sought Him, and God says, 'Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge.' Do not seek anything here by disobeying God but engage in obedience to God in this world. Take advantage of its days and seek what will save you from God's torment tomorrow. That is less hardship, better excuse, and hope for salvation. So put God's commands and obedient leaders before all matters and do not precede them by obeying tyrants for worldly allurements before God. Know that you are God's servants, and we are with you, with a just ruler who will judge you soon — so prepare your answers before standing and questioning before your Lord, when no soul will speak except by His permission. Know that God will not believe the liar then, nor disbelieve the truthful, nor turn away the excuse of the deserved, nor excuse the unexcused. The proof against His creation is through messengers and those appointed after them. So fear God, servants of God, and attend to improving yourselves and obeying God and those who have been entrusted with obedience in it, so that perhaps a regretful person may regret what he neglected yesterday against God’s command and rights. Seek God's forgiveness and repent to Him; He accepts repentance and forgives evil deeds and knows what you do. Beware of companionship with sinners and aiding wrongdoers and living among the wicked; beware of their temptation and keep your distance. Know that whoever opposes God's friends, follows other than God's religion, and rules over the matter instead of God's trustee, will be in a blazing fire consuming bodies devoid of souls and overwhelmed by suffering. They are dead yet in torment. If alive, they would suffer the heat of Hell. Consider, O possessors of insight, and thank God for guiding you. Know you do not escape from God's power to another's power. God will see your deeds and Messenger and then return you to Him. So benefit from admonition and learn from the manner of the righteous.
