What color is Jesus, and is there a Hadith contradiction?
The descriptions of Jesus in the hadith literature provide some insights into his physical appearance, particularly regarding his complexion. For instance, various narrations describe him using terms like "reddish" or "stocky." In one narration, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described Jesus as a man of short stature, reddish-white between the eyes, as though his head were dripping
Sunan Abu Dawud 39:34. Similarly, another narration describes him as stocky, reddish, as if freshly coming from Damascus
Sahih Muslim 1:329.
However, the specific shades of color and their implications can vary across different narrations, leading to discussions about potential contradictions. For example, while some hadith emphasize a reddish complexion, others may suggest different characteristics or descriptions that could lead to confusion about Jesus's exact appearance.
Ibn Kathir, in his tafsir, explains that the descriptions of Jesus are based on authentic hadiths, emphasizing that such details do not detract from his prophetic status or mission. These variations in description can be seen as complementary rather than contradictory, as they provide a more nuanced view of his appearance rather than conflicting accounts.
Thus, while there are various descriptions that might seem contradictory at first glance, they can often be understood within the broader context of hadith literature and the cultural interpretations of those descriptions.

Sunan Abu Dawud 39:34
Sunan Abu Dawud · Book 39, Hadith 34 · Narrated by Abu Huraira
The Prophet said: There is no prophet between me and him, referring to Jesus. He will descend, and when you see him, recognize him—a man of short stature, reddish-white between the eyes, as though his head were dripping. If he does not get wet, he will fight people for Islam; he will break the cross, kill the pig, abolish the jizya, and God will destroy all religions except Islam during his time. The False Messiah (al-Masih ad-Dajjal) will perish; he will remain on earth for forty years and then he will die. Muslims will pray over him.

Sahih Muslim 1:329
Sahih Muslim · Book 1, Hadith 329 · Narrated by Abu Huraira
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said when he was taken on the Night Journey: I met Moses (peace be upon him) and described him as a man with disheveled hair appearing to be from the people of Sheinu'a. I met Jesus (peace be upon him) and described him as stocky, reddish, as if freshly coming from Damascus. I saw Abraham (peace be upon him) and found resemblance in appearance to his son. I was offered two vessels: one with milk and the other with wine. I chose the milk and drank it. I was told, "You have chosen the natural disposition (fitra). If you took the wine, your nation would have gone astray."
