What happens to the salat when the Imam dies or any other thing that Invalidates the salat?
When the Imam dies during the prayer or if other events occur that invalidate the Salah, the congregation must take specific actions to address the situation. According to Islamic teachings, if the Imam dies, the prayer is interrupted, and the congregation should complete the prayer by appointing a new Imam or, if that’s not possible, they may pray individually. This is supported by the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which states that when he was leading the prayer and a situation arose, he guided the people on how to proceed.
Additionally, the Shia perspective emphasizes the importance of having a recognized Imam, stating that Whoever dies without an Imam dies the death of ignorance
Al-Kafi 4:557. This indicates that it is essential for the congregation to be aware of their Imam's identity and leadership during prayer.
If other situations arise that invalidate the prayer, such as the presence of an obstacle or the Imam becoming unable to continue, the congregation should similarly stop the prayer and assess the best way to proceed, which may involve resuming the prayer with a new Imam or allowing individuals to pray separately.
In summary, the death of the Imam or other invalidating factors require the congregation to adapt their prayer practice, either by appointing a new Imam or resuming individual prayers, ensuring that the integrity and continuity of the Salah are maintained.

Al-Kafi · Book 4, Hadith 557
Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated from Muhammad ibn Isa from Yunus ibn Abd al-Rahman who said: Hammad narrated from Abd al-A‘la who said: I asked Abu Abd Allah (peace be upon him) about the saying of the common folk that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Whoever dies without an Imam dies the death of ignorance. He said: This is true, by Allah. I said: But if an Imam dies, and a man in Khorasan does not know who his successor is, is he excused? He said: No, he is not excused. When the Imam dies, the authority of his successor falls upon those with him in the town, and it is obligatory on those not present that if the news reaches them, Allah says: 'Why should not a group from every sect among them go forth so that they may study religion and warn their people when they return to them, so perhaps they may be cautious?' I said: Suppose a group leaves but some die before they arrive and realize? He said: Allah, the Exalted, says: 'And whoever departs from his home as a emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him—his reward surely lies with Allah.' I said: If some reach the town and find your door closed and your curtain lowered and you do not invite them to yourself, and there is no one to lead them to you, by what will they recognize you? He said: By the Book of Allah revealed. — OR — A woman prays in three garments: a lower garment, an outer coat, and a head covering. It does not harm her to veil herself with the head covering. If she does not have it, two garments suffice—she wraps herself with one and veils with the other. I asked, 'If it is an outer coat and a shawl without a veil?' He said, 'No harm if she uses the shawl as a veil. If that does not cover her, she should wear it long.'
