What should I say when I hear the Aazan?
When you hear the Aazan, it is recommended to repeat what the muezzin says. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed this practice in several narrations. For example, Sunan al-Tirmidhi records that The Messenger of Allah said, 'When you hear the call to prayer, say what the muezzin says.'
Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2:60. Similarly, Sunan Abu Dawud states, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'When you hear the call to prayer, say what the caller says.'
Sunan Abu Dawud 2:132. In addition, Sunan an-Nasa'i narrates, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'When you hear the call to prayer, say what the muezzin says.'
Sunan an-Nasa'i 7:48. Sunan Ibn Majah also conveys a related teaching: My aunt reported that she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'Whenever the time for prayer arrives—day or night—and you hear the mu'adhdhin calling, repeat what the mu'adhdhin says.'
Sunan Ibn Majah 4:14.
In summary, when you hear the Aazan, you should repeat the words of the muezzin as instructed by the Prophet ﷺ.
