Why did Prophet Mohammed (saws) not let Ali marry another woman?

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not allow Ali ibn Abi Talib to marry the daughter of Hisham ibn al-Mughira due to his protective feelings towards his daughter Fatima. The Prophet expressed this sentiment clearly while addressing the people from the pulpit. He stated: The sons of Hisham bin Mughira asked me for permission for their daughter to marry Ali bin Abi Talib, but I did not permit it, then I did not permit it, then I did not permit it, until Ali bin Abi Talib intends to divorce my daughter and marry their daughter. She is part of me. What harms her harms me, and what harms me harms her. Sunan al-Tirmidhi 49:267SunniSahih (per Al-Albani).

This highlights the deep bond the Prophet felt towards Fatima and reflects his concern for her well-being. He did not want his daughter to be subjected to the emotional turmoil of such a situation, especially considering the implications of marrying into a family that he viewed unfavorably. This protective stance indicates how much he valued the honor and feelings of Fatima, whom he affirmed as an integral part of himself.
